[Of course, if you also want to pre-order McCutchen's Bones, I won't stop you.]
McCutchen's Bones includes five episodic stories at the heart of the Lost DMB Files StoryVerse.Hell's WombGet Doc QuickMcCutchen's BonesParaplegic Zombie SlayerFourth Horseman
These stories dive deeply into the origins of the Twitch retrovirus that ends up zombi-ifying much of the central and midwestern United States. Hell's Womb is a touching story about the love between two brothers whose relationship has been strained over a single wife. (Well, that along with being trapped in a collapsing mine with a couple of monsters.)
Get Doc Quick tells the story of a hardened, chicklet-chewing, country veterinarian who is called upon to care for the first victims of the Twitch. And by caring for, he is asked to restrain them and then execute them. But after souping up a Model T, he decides to go Mad Max on his company keepers.
McCutchen's Bones is the story of a prodigal son who is forced to return home when his father runs afoul of powerful people. What McCutchen Jr. finds is a handful of truth and wisdom from his old man...along with the brutal reality of the Twitch.
Paraplegic Zombie Slayer is my favorite Lost File to date. It's a story of a failed father who has lost his wife, daughter, and legs at the beginning of the Twitch plague. But he has three sons who need him to get his act together so they can bring stability to the Dust Zone of the Texas Panhandle.
Fourth Horseman is a bizarre potential explanation for the extended conditions of the Dust Zone in the Panhandle of Texas. It's my attempt to scrap for meaning in a dirty and violent world. And there is a horse who drinks warm beer.
Now if those little summaries haven't sold you, then I don't think anything will. I mean, in a world where reality sucks plenty bad, it's time to dive into a world that get's 10 times uglier than anything we're going through in real life. Am I right? And if a guy in a wheelchair can still cut down a dozen twitchers, then maybe we can make a go of things too.
Underneath all my stories, I always like to draw us back to the relationships that keep us human. And at times like these, we need those relationships more than ever. Sure, just like my characters, we make plenty of mistakes. But if their can be redemption for the Reefer Ranger and his old man, then there can be redemption for us all.
Next week, I'll drop a little bomb regarding The Green Ones.
Hint, it involves an early release of the first season, and another special offer for exclusive content. Don't click on this link, or you'll spoil the surprise!
In all seriousness, thanks for reading to this point in this email. Peace be upon you and your loved ones during this time of isolation and increased anxiety. We are in this together. And I'm totally serious when I say I'm here for you. You need to shoot out an email to help you process? Shoot it out to me. Shoot it from the hip. I'm a safe crazy.
And on that note...
Fire in the hole!!!
