For the telekinetic youth of New Teotihuacan's Worker City there are two choices: an enslaved life or a free death. By sixteen, everyone must choose.
Calli Bluehair's only hope of escaping a violent death in the self-indulgent underground of Worker City is the government-run Masa Academy. Choosing to ignore the rumors that the Academy is an option worse than death, Calli determines to claw her way onto the registry and take her brother, Olin, with her.
When, only days before registration, Olin is thrown into a state of telekinetic shock capable of detonating half of Worker City, Calli is forced to seek help from an infamous crime lord or risk losing her future and her only remaining family. It turns out that many have intentions for the uniquely gifted siblings and survival may no longer be enough.
Brown's page-turning, dystopian adventure revolves around a heroine who must maintain her humanity in the midst of monstrous decisions. His vivid rendering of telekinesis births a complex, mysterious, and provocative world that reveals itself to the reader in a kaleidoscope of detail the longer one chooses to stare through his fractured lens. The Green Ones series is a mix of The Hunger Games, Ready Player One, and Ender’s Game.
MORE ABOUT THE SCHISM 8 STORYVERSE:
(What is a StoryVerse?)
Reality is broken.
In a world where senses perceive a fraction of reality, every conspiracy should be taken seriously and the impossible considered probable. From secret histories to alternate futures, to paranoid thriller, pulp western, and dystopian fantasy, Schism 8 pieces together a vast reality that eventually pits its central characters against each other as they attempt to assert their personal views of reality as correct. In the end, whose image will the universe reflect? Only those who envision the Schism will survive.
All SCHISM 8 SERIES (as of 2020):
Lost DMB Files
De Novo
Relic Hunters
The Green Ones
Here is Where to Start!
As with all good stories, the beginning is the best place to start. You can do that by clicking here: https://davidmarkbrown.substack.com/p/outburst-the-green-ones-season-1. Then use the “Next” links at the bottom right of each scene/post to navigate to the next scene.
Other links of interest include the Nahuatl glossary: https://davidmarkbrown.substack.com/p/the-green-ones-glossary
And if you haven’t read the prequel Episode Zero: Logwood Tea, you can read that for some additional background on Calli and her brother, Olin.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If I give you my email will I get flooded with daily emails from you?
No. I’ll post scenes to davidmarkbrown.substack on a daily basis. But email will be sent out in the form of a weekly digest on Fridays. Each weekly email will catch you up with the scenes that have been published over the past week along with giving you additional news and nuggets. This email will also serve as a reminder and a quick link for you.
Is this some kind of bait and switch scam to get me hooked on your stories?
No. You will be able to read all the way to the end for free. I’ll never force you to pay to finish a story.
How the heck do you plan on making any money?
While I won’t force you to pay, I won’t turn down payment either. Everything you read here on davidmarkbrown.substack will also be available in ebook and print formats via Amazon.com and Bookshop.org. At any point during your reading, you are invited to purchase the ebook or print book if you prefer those reading experiences. Even if you prefer the serial reading option, I welcome premium subscribers here on substack. You can click the below button to subscribe!
Do you seriously expect me to read an entire book on your davidmarkbrown.substack website?
I realize serial release reading here on davidmarkbrown.substack isn’t for everyone. While some of you will enjoy the momentary, daily diversions provided by these little chunks of story, some of you will not. This is why I’m making all of these stories available in ebook and print format as well. At the end of every scene (and in every weekly email digest), you’ll find linked buttons for purchasing your preferred format between ebook (Amazon.com) and paperback (Bookshop.org).
What if I want to know more about your stories before reading them?

What is the Schism 8 StoryVerse?
Once again, click on over to my about page for a quick introduction to the Schism 8 StoryVerse as well as an explanation on what a StoryVerse is (think Marvel).
What can I expect next?
I’ll publish the entirety of Outburst (Season 1 of The Green Ones) over the next 63 days. Depending on demand (and my production schedule), I might start publishing Outrage, Season 2 of The Green Ones immediately after finishing season 1, or I might take a short intermission.
I may also launch a second streaming substack for the Lost DMB Files that would start with Fistful of Reefer. This would be a second substack and a second weekly digest email that could run simultaneously with Outburst and/or Outrage of The Green Ones. We’ll just have to see how it goes. If things go well, then you can expect new De Novo and Relic Hunters streaming substacks in 2021.
On that note…
Fire in the hole!!!

I got the ebook on my Kindle, and I read the first page (nicely done!), but I simply must finish The Two Towers before I can continue. If I don't, I just won't feel good about myself. (Notice I didn't say I had to finish LOTR. That would be entirely too long...) Can't wait!
